Processor Overviews
BDTI has compiled key information on 60 architectures from 22 vendors. BDTI's Processor Overviews are intended to be used as a reference by DSP engineers and designers who need to quickly compare the basic architectural features of currently available DSPs and general-purpose processors.

Pocket Guide to Processors for DSP
BDTI's 'Pocket Guide to Processors for DSP' is a compact, one-page summary of the key features of 42 different families of DSP processors and cores from 11 vendors. The Pocket Guide includes information on each family's arithmetic type, data width, instruction width, speed, relative DSP performance (based a BDTI composite DSP benchmark score, the BDTImark2000 or BDTIsimMark2000), address space, voltage, and unique features.

comp.dsp FAQ
This paper is a general overview to the DSP area, sponsored by Berkeley Design Technology. BDTI has just revised the FAQ into a briefer but more up-to-date general introduction to DSP. In the latest revision of the comp.dsp FAQ, they decided to eliminate the long list of manufacturers.

Free Information and Articles from BDTI
This archive contains numerous white papers and analyses of the DSP marketplace, published by Berkeley Design Technology, Inc. It is perhaps the best starting point to DSP available on the Internet, and highly rated. The BDTImark2000 is a measure of a processor's execution speed on DSP-intensive algorithms. Higher BDTImark2000 scores indicate faster execution times. A white paper explaining the BDTImark2000 is available.

DSP RTOS Overview
Some designers need to use an operating system with a DSP processor and others don't. The need for DSP operating system seems to depend on the task(s) to be performed. For simple DSP tasks where a single function or a few simple functions are being performed, an operating system is usually not needed and could get in the way.

Comp.dsp
Comp.dsp is a worldwide Usenet news group that is used to discuss various aspects of digital signal processing. It is unmoderated, though we try to keep the signal to noise ratio up :-). If you need to ask a question that isn't in the FAQ, and can't figure out how to post, consult news.newusers.questions.
