This last summer Xilinx release the Spartan6 line of FPGAs.
It has been awhile since the last major Spartan release, the Spartan3, which was derived off the Virtex-II. The Xilinx Spartan models are the lower cost version FPGAs and the Virtex are the higher cost (more functionality and more resources). Since the Spartan3, Xilinx has released the Virtex4 and Virtex5.
Xilinx did also release the Spartan3E and Spartan3A but these were minor...
