How compilers and tools differ for embedded systems
So, why is it so hard to create a satisfactory programming environment for today's embedded systems? Why and how must such an environment be di erent from those in use on general purpose computer systems? I'm going to discuss this problem from the top down, starting at the marketplace for programming environments (read: compilers) for embedded systems versus the market in the general purpose workstation or cluster world.
