After many problems with the expensive OOPic microcontrollers while working with the Point Dexter project, I decided to experiment with simpler and cheaper microcontrollers.
The choice was between Microchip's PIC series and Atmel's AVR series.
While it appeared to me that the PIC had a larger community, there were two primary reasons why the AVR was more appealing.
