Executive Summary
The new Android platform and operating system for phones is generating a lot of excitement from developers and consumers alike.
Indeed, more than 30 technology and mobile companies have shown their enthusiasm by joining the Open Handset Alliance, www.openhandsetalliance.com, to develop the first open mobile platform.
Despite the buzz, though, there is a significant barrier to widespread enterprise adoption of the Android platform: its lack of enterprise-grade security tools.
Carmi Levy, senior VP for strategic consulting at AR Communications, notes that Android has little chance of an enterprise play until security concerns are settled [1]. This is a non-trivial issue; even very popular devices with high customer satisfaction ratings, such as Apples iPhone, have found it difficult to penetrate the enterprise market without robust security features.
Jack Gold of J. Gold Associates has likewise said that businesses acceptance of Android devices will be greatly influenced by whether or not such devices have basic security, such as native encryption or robust user logon passwords.
However, security so far remains an unanswered question for Android. [2]
Conversely, the BlackBerry smartphone has been embraced by the business community in large part because of the BlackBerrys robust security.
However, consumers satisfaction with their BlackBerrys is much lower than iPhone: 54% vs. 79% [3]. We can presume that a primary reason is the difference in the iPhones "Wow! factor".
These two polarized ends of the marketthe sleek, snazzy iPhone and the utilitarian BlackBerrypresent a strategic opportunity for Android developers.
What if you could build a phone with the security of a BlackBerry and the "Wow! factor" of an iPhone? With Mocanas new NanoPhone Suite for Android, you can.
NanoPhone is the first and only software package that allows developers to quickly and easily build enterprise-grade security into Android devices and applications.
NanoPhone is designed as a modular framework, enabling you to pick and use only what you need, and easily add more functionality later.
And best of all, you dont need to be a crypto expert to use the NanoPhone suite.
Each components functions are available through an extremely powerful but easy-to-use API that hides all the complexity of cryptography.
