Understanding PCI Bus, PCI-Express and In finiBand Architecture
There is some confusion in the market place concerning the replacement of the PCI Bus (Peripheral Components Interface) by either the InfiniBand SM Architecture (IBA), PCI-Express (formerly 3GIO - Third Generation I/O), or upgrades to the PCI bus itself.
Initially the InfiniBand architec-ture was viewed as the replacement for the PCI bus, yet the PCISIG (PCI Special Interest Group) recently announced that PCI-Express would replace the PCI bus.

PCI Express
PCI Express (Official abbreviation PCIe, PCI-E often used, not to be mistaken for PCI-X) is a computer system bus that allows expansion cards with various capabilities to be added to a system.
It is a flexible system intended to replace PCI, PCI-X and AGP. While PCI-express has the same software interface as PCI and can be bridged to PCI the cards are physically and electrically incompatible.
While in development, PCI Express was referred to...

PCI Express Bus
A Description of the new Serial PCI Bus 'PCI Express'. The PCI Express [PCIe] bus defines the Electrical, topology and protocol for the physical layer of a point to point serial interface over copper wire or optical fiber.
In addition to the Physical Layer, the PCI Express specification also covers the Transaction Layer and Data Link Layer.
The Physical Layer resides with Layer 1, and the Data Link Layer resides with Layer 2 of the OSI...

PCI Express Bus Tutorial - Basic Introduction
The processor communicates with other peripherals in the PC through a path of data called bus. Since the release of the first PC, in 1981, up to the present day, several types of bus have been developed in order to allow the communication between the processor and input and output peripherals.
We can name the following buses already launched...

PCI Express: An Overview
With the launch of Intel's 900-series chipsets and the recent return of SLI to the video card scene, PCI Express has finally arrived on the PC enthusiast scene in a big way. PCI Express-enabled motherboards are going to start becoming more and more common, and with the new bus's increasing ubiquity will come the inevitable confusion that accompanies the rise of any new technology, especially one as complex and feature-rich as PCI Express.
