GPIB - IEEE 488 Computer Based Measuring Techniques
The IEEE 488 interface, often called the 'General Purpose Interface Bus' (GPIB), is a standard defined by the 'Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers' (IEEE) that is used to transfer data between computers and instruments.
The first standard was accepted in 1975 but has since then expanded, last time in 1992 (IEEE 488.2) with SCPI (Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments).
