Session Initiation Protocol (sip)
The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) working group is chartered to continue the development of SIP, currently specified as proposed standard RFC 2543. SIP is a text-based protocol, similar to HTTP and SMTP, for initiating interactive communication sessions between users. Such sessions include voice, video, chat, interactive games, and virtual reality.

Session Initiation Protocol Interoperability Tests
SIPITs, or Session Initiation Protocol Interoperability Tests, are weeklong events where people bring their SIP implementations to ensure they work together. The SIPITs are open to anyone with a working SIP implementation. The goal of the events is to refine both the protocol and its implementations. The SIPITs are a driving force shaping SIP into a globally interoperable protocol for real time Internet communication services.
