SmallC for AVR - Free Compiler
SmallC for AVR has been extensively re-written to make it more efficient.
Typical code space savings of over 50% on version 1 have been achieved.
A complete User Manual is now available that puts in one place the details previously scattered throughout my old web pages.
It includes many examples and code snippets on configuring and using the various AVR hardware.

AVaRICE
AVaRICE is a program which interfaces the GNU Debugger GDB with the AVR JTAG ICE available from Atmel.
In recent times, GCC added support for the AVR series of microcontrollers.
This has been quite the boon for those of us who write embedded applications for processors with 'leaner' architectures.
Recently, Atmel announced the availability of a JTAG box for the AVR. Until now, there was no way to interface to this device with GDB.
